2019 RAM 1500 vs 2019 Ford F-150

Serving Worcester, MA

The Ram 1500 received a complete makeover for 2019. The truck has excellent ride quality, relaxing seats, and a top rated cabin in its class. It is an overall top rated truck. The Ram is approximately 225 pounds lighter than its predecessor. It has a rugged all steel frame, except for the aluminum hood and tailgate. The truck is very aerodynamic. This is partly due to a 2 degree slanted windshield and venturi roof.

The 2019 Ford F-150 will never be accused of being aerodynamic. It has a traditional boxy design. No major changes were made for the 2019 year. The cabin is not as luxurious as the Ram. There were no significant efforts made to reduce the overall weight on the new model.

Powertrain and Drivetrain

The most popular engine for the new Ram will be a 5.7-liter V-8. It will produce 395-hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. It has plenty of power to move the lighter frame. The Ram has a cylinder deactivation system to switch to four cylinders for efficiency. An electronic dampening system is used to prevent vibrations during cylinder deactivation. The engine is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The gearbox offers excellent shifting and response. The rear axle fluid is quickly warmed up to operating temperature by engine coolant. The coolant also keeps the axle cool under heavy loads.

The most popular engine for the F-150 will be a 2.7-liter turbocharged V-6. It will be capable of producing 325-hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. It will be coupled to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Towing

The Ram’s most popular 5.7-liter V-8 engine will be capable of towing up to 12,750 pounds. The F-150’s most popular 2.7-liter turbocharged engine will be capable of towing 8,500 pounds.

Suspension

The new Ram’s front suspension has been retuned and updated. The overall geometry was revised and lighter upper control arms were used. The front anti-roll bar was repositioned to further reduce roll. The improved dampers effortlessly absorb speed bumps, pot holes and other road irregularities. The steering is electrically assisted and very responsive.

The F-150 has electronic assisted steering, but it is not tuned as precisely as the steering on the Ram. The suspension has a coil-and-shock combination front end and a solid rear axle with leaf springs. The rear also has staggered outboard shocks. The suspension still does not dampen as well as the suspension on the Ram.
