2022 Ram 3500 Engines and Capability
If you’re in the market for a Ram 3500, you’re in the market for a massively capable truck. No matter the type of job or obstacle you come across, this Ram can grit its teeth, bear down, and help you accomplish it.
There are two engines offered for the 2022 model year, with the diesel option coming in two states of tune. So, it’s more like you have three options to consider. First is the standalone 6.4L HEMI® V8 making 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. Choose this V8 and you can expect a robust 18,210 pounds of towing capacity to go along with 7,680 pounds of payload.
Next, we have the 6.7L CUMMINS® turbo diesel I6 that can be had with or without the high-output tune. If you stick with the regular version, you’re looking at 370 horsepower, 850 lb-ft of torque, 22,670 pounds of maximum towing, and 6,840 pounds of maximum payload. Choose the high-output version of the 6.7L, and those figures jump to:
- 420 horsepower
- 1,075 lb-ft of torque
- 6,570 pounds of maximum payload
- 37,090 pounds of maximum towing capacity
Intelligent and Helpful Features
To help you make the most of all this power, Ram has given the 3500 a range of useful, clever technologies and features.
For example, the integrated towing hardware is capable of easily supporting a 5th-wheel or gooseneck trailer. This is possible because the truck touts a factory-installed rear-axle structural crossmember with an integrated mounting hardware.
If you’re trying to get a better feel for where your trailer is or what’s around you, lean on the digital rearview mirror with tow mode. Right in your rearview mirror, you’ll see a live feed displayed from a trailer camera connected on the rear bumper.
And, as with any Ram truck, driving comfort and overall poise are stellar, especially when opting for the available rear air suspension system. Capable of lowering your bed when you have to attach a trailer, this mode is useful in myriad ways.
