2022 Ram 1500 Engine Options, Towing Capacity, and Payload
We typically start with the engine lineup when discussing the Ram 1500 because it’s such an integral part of the truck’s personality. Most folks use the Ram for towing or hauling responsibilities, and the engine will directly influence these important capabilities.
We’ll start with the V6 options, the first of which is a 3.6L making 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. If you stick with this standard engine, you can expect a reasonable towing capacity of 7,730 pounds.
The next V6 noticeably ups the towing capability. This is because the 3.0L V6 is an EcoDiesel. If you choose this diesel motor, horsepower measures 260, torque comes in at 480 lb-ft, and towing capacity is a strong 12,560 pounds.
Next on the list is the 5.7L HEMI® that always makes 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. Without eTorque technology, the motor tows 11,610 pounds, but with eTorque, the motor reaches 12,750 pounds—the highest total for the 2022 Ram 1500. This engine is also responsible for the truck’s maximum payload capacity of 2,300 pounds.
Finally, there’s the ludicrous 6.2L HEMI® V8 boasting 702 horsepower, 650 lb-ft of torque, and a 0-60 MPH dash of 4.5 seconds.
